I’m not sure if any of you have read The Collector by John Fowles, but I was up until the early hours of the morning just digging through this novel. It’s so twisted and beautiful, makes you step back and really see life for what it is. Frederick’s obsession and madness, inability to logically see Miranda’s freedom as the only way he could possibly be happy. Him adding Miranda to his “collection” or butterflies, disregarding her inner self and keeping her captured because he is in awe of her physical being - her shell. Miranda’s strength, hope and inspiring diary entries during the whole ordeal really moved me. I’d recommend it to anyone, it’s a captivating read about freedom and entrapment. Isolation, art, human interaction and most importantly how valuable hope is.
